Sorry, this is a bit late...

Please post a new entry with the following subject:
"January 2017 - review - [Title] by [Author]"

In your entry please use this format:

Please use tags for the author and the rating.

Your review doesn't have to be long--it can be only two or three sentences. Say why you did or didn't like the book, mention something that was really great/thought-provoking/sad/horrible.

Rules are necessary, so here's the general lay of the land:

1) The schedule is one book per calendar month.

2) Everybody gets to select a book, which we'll call claiming for now. The claiming post will go up at the beginning of the month. Your claiming comment should include the title, author and a blurb or a link to goodreads or Amazon.

If anyone sees someone claiming a book they own or want to read, they should feel free to jump in and read the same book! Depending on interest, we can make genre-related threads or even for a specific book that's coming out.

3) The reviewing post will go up at the end of the month, about a week before. Reviews should include a rating (1 to 5 stars) and a short opinion. That can be only one sentence. This post stays open until the 10th of the next month.

4) If you need to quit a book, feel free to do so. Life is too short to force yourself through a badly written book, one that is boring you to tears or one that features topics you'd rather not read about. You should still post a review. You can also switch to a new book, but you don't have to.

5) If you cannot finish the book in the set calendar month... well, you only need to post your review until the 10th of the following month. Life tends to happen and sometimes it happens rather fast and a lot at the same time. So if you finish your book five days late, I'm not going to care. After all, this is mostly an endeavor to get those books read.

And that's it. As for the books you want to claim: everything's open. You have already started a book but are stuck in the beginning? Can be claimed. You started it so long ago that you have to start at the beginning again? No problem. There's this one book which you've started five times already and you always fail out of it? Feel free to try again.

The book doesn't have to be in English, either, she types as she glances at the German, English, Russian and French books on her shelves.

It can be non-fiction, poem collections, high literature, trash novels. Doesn't matter if it's 100 pages or 1000 (although for the sake of the challenge, try to select something which you're sure you can finish in one month). You want to read the entire collected works of Poe, Shakespeare or Wilde? Live your best life.

This book club is somewhat different: instead of selecting a book and everyone reading the same book, here everyone gets to select their own book.

See, I have a thing about book clubs. I love the idea of book clubs, of discussing what I've read with other people, but also the accountability of having to read that book.

I also have a problem with book clubs: I don't necessarily need more books to read. I have entire shelves of unread books which I'm planning to read at some book in the future. It turns out that some of my friends seem to have the same problem.

And voilĂ , here we are! Feel free to refer to the rules post and ask any questions there.
